Frequently Asked Questions
Good question!
It’s a clear, simple, and easy to follow program. Plus, it allows parents to choose one of two different approaches based on their child’s temperament and personality.
Also, My expertise and experience as a sleep consultant as well as a medical practitioner (doctor) allows me to anticipate just about every question that you (as a parent) might have about sleep training and I make sure that the answers to those questions are clearly explained for you and you get a sleep plan that suits your family’s needs.
No.
The “cry-it-out” method works like this: Step 1: Put child to bed. Step 2: Walk away. Step 3: Let child scream, cry, howl etc. until child is asleep.
Now, while the CIO method does work, most parents simply aren’t comfortable with it. That being said, you should expect some crying (protest). After all, babies can’t say things like “Hey, I actually preferred it when you were nursing me to sleep four times a night… Can we go back to that system?” Instead, they cry!
However, I will never ask you to leave your child crying, alone. There will be some crying but we will make sure we train them in the most gentle manner.
It is not possible to predict the amount of protest from each individual child because there are so many factors to take into account – baby’s temperament/personality and accumulated sleep debt – but I will be there to guide you through the process every step of the way. We will talk through how to respond in a confident, calm, gentle way. What you will get is a happier, well rested baby!
Yes, we can train toddlers and preschoolers. And the good news is that, when you’re dealing with older children, you can make use of incentives like reward charts!
It’s a little more work (isn’t EVERYTHING when you have multiples?) but it’s 100% doable!
Yes. If you’re sharing a room with your child, a great strategy is to set up a partition or divider of some kind between you and your child for the first little while. (This can be as simple as hanging a sheet over a clothesline.)
